Types of Timber Flooring
Choosing the most suitable kind and style of floor for your home will be easier if you are familiar with some common industry terms;
Species: Species are the types of trees that are used to manufacture timber flooring. Chadwicks offer a wide range of species including Maple, Oak, Birch, Ash, Beech and Cherry.
Solid Timber Floors: Solid timber floors are hardwood all the way through. Chadwicks offer solid floors both pre-finished and unfinished. Unfinished floors must be sanded and varnished in your home after installation. Prefinished floors are ready for use immediately on installation.
Semi-Solid floors: Semi-solid floors are made up of a hardwood veneer (usually 3 – 4 mm thick) which is bonded onto several layers of top quality plywood.
Green County semi-solid floors are available exclusively from Chadwicks branches throughout Ireland.
Laminate Floors: Laminate floors are man-made laminates which are bonded to a core of high density fibreboard. Chadwicks laminate floors are available pre-finished, and have the advantage of being more dimensionally stable (less shrinkage or expansion).
